Quotes:

Laura Ludwig

“We had a little bit of a slow start in this match.  We are focusing on us, we aren’t aggressive enough.  I think we are holding back a bit, maybe we are a little anxious.  We need to get in the rhythm.  (On calling timeout at 6-6 in the third set, then scoring four straight points) “This is an important one so let’s regroup and go forward.  Smart, huh?  The Austrians know how to make a big show.  This is only the second day for the World Champs, and its full.  The Centre Court is unbelievable and loud and good entertainment and nice atmosphere.  Even on the side courts it’s packed… well, for the German games!”

Kira Walkenhorst

“We have not had as good a season as we had hoped we would have.  But we are getting better game by game.  We are really happy we won this game today, it is very important for us.  Hopefully we’ll get better as we keep going.  This format helps us, especially since we couldn’t practice that much with my shoulder.  So it’s really good to only have one match per day.”

Quotes:

Laura Ludwig:

"We were probably a little bit intense and nervous, not in the quiet calm way we usually play. But even tough I think it was one of our best games so far. There is definitely still something to improve, staying calm our side out was still now that perfect. This was not the beach volleyball we can normally play, but in block and defense we showed we are ready and that we can put our opponents under pressure".

Kira Walkenhorst:

"It was really hot on the court and I'm so happy that Laura was next to me. She played a really good match while I was not feeling good into the game, I didn't play the way I wanted. She did it all, she was amazing. I'm really happy that we came back in our match and did better during the match. Two years ago we would have lost this match but now he had a lot of experience and games together, so we were able to change the game".

Quotes

Kira Walkenhorst

“In our first two matches, we never won against this team, so I am really happy…They are a young team. They are good with blocks and on defense. They also have the typical American optimism.”

Laura Ludwig

“They are a young team with nothing to lose. They play amazing beach volleyball. They look so relaxed when they play. We focused more on our side, and that was the key…I love watching them play. They are relaxed and always dancing. They are focused and polite. They are really impressive. They have had good results and a great future.”

******* GOLD MEDAL *******

Quotes:

Kira Walkenhorst

"I really can’t believe it and we really wanted to do good here.  We believed it and game by game we got better.  It was really tough against the Americans. They’re a good team, for sure. They haven’t played that long together right now. They were really good in this match and we played the first set and really had the focus on our reception. We had to work together and play our game."

Laura Ludwig

"It was definitely a tight match, it was going back and forth.  They definitely did a good job and we just had to focus on our side.  We knew we could touch every ball and serve better.  It was one of our best serving games of the tournament.  After the break we said we can do better.  I think we can’t realize what we achieved the last 10 days.  We wanted to play as much as we can.  We’re just happy to play together and find our self confidence together. A lot of Germans came, a lot of Germans were cheering.  Every player loves it, to be on centre court.  It gave me goose bumps."
